We're entering the next phase...A few days ago I r We're entering the next phase...A few days ago I received a phone call from @nclstartup to say I had been awarded more grant funding than I initially asked for, they wanted to support our next phase and help us grow more than we imagined. Because of this funding everything we've planned out for the next 5 years will now be coming into place in a matter of months, the goal one day in the future was to set up a Media company, manifesting the Insta pages to not only be online, #LewkGoodDoGood to be more and #MyBlackHairMemoirs to be more to provide more, devoted to creating more representation for minortized groups, surrounding us with those just like us, to ensure we were supported throughout our lives. I wanted to turn negative life experiences into our own joy, to see ourselves, be ourselves and more, to not feel fear but power and confidence to not apologise for who we are. The Media company would  connect with other companies, brands and businesses to ensure we were shown and heard as well as amplify the importance of creating our own worlds. This is an introductory post to Navii Media, I've been working behind the scenes to develop this dream, make sure it was just right for you guys, because we deserve the best. I knew what I needed as a queer, dark skinned Black womxn and the communities I'm a part of, the things we need especially right now. Our world has been chaotic and we need peace, joy and safety. Growing up it felt like who I was, what I looked like, how I identified, I would never find solace, yet I found you guys and saw the power of not sitting at small tables silent but raising our voices in our own houses. Navii Media is here to change the game with new and exciting things planned to come out very soon🎉🤩 Thank you everyone for supporting this dream and this journey, for being a part of it I hope I do it justice. Just for us. Our world.🌍❤ // Reposted from @nclstartup 📢We’re thrilled to be awarding £40,800 in equity-free seed funding to 15 start-ups...(More info on Start Up Instagram)

"If you're always trying to be normal, you'll neve "If you're always trying to be normal, you'll never know how amazing you can be." - Maya Angelou 🤎🕊 you're not here to be small, to fit into the boxes of those who cannot imagine seeing you soar beyond your wildest dreams. You're here for a reason, to be you, to embrace the centuries of features beautifully carved into your face. To be proud of where you came from, who you came from and what you'll come to be. International womxns day cannot leave out our voices, we must remember the magnificent power within us, this speaks for itself. Find your warrior cry in your own way, in your own time, on your journey. As a non-binary womxn my journey is one I'm finding solace with those on this journey with me, it's a special kind of peace to not explain who you are, a peace you deserve. While we may not be able to control the negative environments around us and we have the ability to produce safe spaces among us, and that could change your entire life, finding safety without the question of your existence. To me that is what International womxns day means to me, finding peace as I am, with those like me, to create our own world so we can thrive as we are. ✊🏾🤎 #internationalwomxnsday

Hi everyone! My name is Dami Fawehinmi and I am th Hi everyone! My name is Dami Fawehinmi and I am the creator and student lead for @claimingyourspace an art competition and exhibition for BAME students at Newcastle University (side note voting is now open to ALL students and staff! Link in the CYS bio🗳🥳) Originally the plan was to have an in-person awards night and exhibition, however, we were all able to adapt to the world as it changed before us. Being able to see each of these utterly amazing submissions as they came in warmed my heart so much, many stories I related to and was so happy to see them unapologetically put on a platform in a space just for us. Our stories were amplified in a predominantly white space, where as a BAME student, it can feel intimidating to take up space, it feels like you don’t belong and also speaking up against injustices can be intimidating.
You may question if you deserve to be there, but your presence is so powerful! The way students have been able to transform their experiences into paintings, illustrations, stories, spoken word, and more is representative of that power. You stood up for what you believed in and told the world to accept you fully as you are. You do not have to change to fit in here, in this space it is just for you, to keep telling your stories. Having projects and spaces like Claiming Your Space as I grew up gave me so much confidence to be an unapologetic Black womxn, moving to Newcastle I knew it would be so important to keep being that unapologetic Black womxn. Being yourself is the best thing you can be. It's essential to spread opportunities with those around you, support your people, to be loud and proud within art and society. I just want to say a major thank to Inclusion Ambassdors for this opportunity, to our wondeful judging panel for taking part, everyone who has helped share & a massive round of applause for the 14 extremely talented students that submitted and all our BAME students in this city! Remember you have every right to take up space and claim your space!🥳 swipe to see the entrants!!!
